School Name:
Teacher’s Name:
Subject: General Science
Grade Level: Grade 5
Date: Week 14
Lesson Duration: 45 minutes
Week & Period: Week 14, Period 3
Topic: Human Reproduction
Sub-topic: Physiological changes during puberty and understanding conception

Learning Objectives
By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
Identify physiological changes during puberty, explain how the body prepares for these changes, and understand conception, including when and how pregnancy occurs

Previous Knowledge
Students already know:
Basic body parts and functions

Instructional Materials
Charts showing puberty changes, diagrams of reproductive system, handouts on conception

Lesson Development – ABC Model
A – Anticipation (Warm-up / Starter) Time: 5–10 minutes
Learners’ Activities (Expanded): Students discuss changes they have observed in themselves or peers as they grow older.
Assessment Checks: Teacher asks for examples of physical and emotional changes during growth.
Notes (Expanded & Detailed): Reinforce that changes are normal and part of human development.

B – Building Knowledge (Main Lesson Body)
Time: 25–30 minutes
Learners’ Activities (Expanded): Learners observe diagrams illustrating physical changes in boys (e.g., voice deepening, facial hair growth) and girls (e.g., breast development, menstruation) during puberty. Teacher explains mental and emotional changes, such as mood swings, increased self-awareness, and decision-making. Students participate in guided discussions about these changes and ask questions to clarify understanding. Teacher introduces the concepts of conception and fertilization using simple diagrams, explaining how pregnancy occurs when a sperm fertilizes an egg. Learners engage in Q&A to explore common misconceptions and ensure comprehension.

Assessment Checks: Teacher asks learners to list at least two physical and two emotional changes during puberty. Learners explain, in their own words, how conception occurs. Teacher observes participation in discussions and ability to correctly identify body changes.

Notes (Expanded & Detailed): Puberty is a stage of growth when the body matures physically, mentally, and emotionally. Boys and girls experience different changes, but both need guidance to understand their bodies. Conception occurs when sperm meets egg, leading to pregnancy. Emphasize safety, respect, and sensitivity during discussions. Encourage learners to ask questions in a safe and supportive environment.

C – Consolidation (Conclusion & Assessment) Time: 5–10 minutes
Summary: Students summarize puberty changes and conception process.
Evaluation Method (Expanded):
Exit slip/quiz: Students write one puberty change and one fact about conception. Teacher reviews and provides oral feedback.
Assignment (Expanded): Students create a chart of puberty changes for boys and girls.
Follow-up Activity: Observe and note physical changes in animals to compare growth and reproduction.
Differentiation / Inclusive Strategies: Use diagrams and peer discussion for students who struggle with text-based learning.
