Lesson Duration: 45 minutes
Week & Period: Week 15, Period 3
Topic: Pregnancy and Prevention
Sub-topic: Preventing pregnancy and introduction to contraceptives

Learning Objectives
By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
Explain how to prevent pregnancy, identify types of contraceptives with their strengths and weaknesses, and understand the importance of abstinence and refusal skills

Previous Knowledge
Students already know:
Basic reproductive system and conception process

Instructional Materials
Charts showing contraceptive methods, handouts, scenarios for role play

Lesson Development – ABC Model
A – Anticipation (Warm-up / Starter) Time: 5–10 minutes
Learners’ Activities (Expanded): Students discuss why preventing pregnancy is important.
Assessment Checks: Teacher asks students to share ideas about prevention without naming specific contraceptives yet.
Notes (Expanded & Detailed): Ensure discussion is age-appropriate and factual.

B – Building Knowledge (Main Lesson Body)
Time: 25–30 minutes
Learners’ Activities (Expanded): Learners observe charts and diagrams showing different contraceptives: condoms, pills, intrauterine devices (IUDs), and implants. Teacher explains how each method works, its effectiveness, and possible side effects. Learners discuss the concept of abstinence as a method to prevent pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections. Students participate in role-play scenarios practicing refusal skills in risky situations, such as peer pressure to engage in sexual activity. Groups discuss safe choices and present strategies to the class.

Assessment Checks: Teacher asks learners to name at least two contraceptive methods and explain their function. Learners demonstrate refusal skills in role plays and explain why abstinence can be important. Teacher observes participation and correct use of terms.

Notes (Expanded & Detailed): Contraceptives help prevent unwanted pregnancies and reduce risk of infections. Each method has strengths and limitations. Abstinence is the only 100% effective prevention method. Refusal skills are practical strategies to resist pressure and maintain personal safety. Emphasize respect for personal choices, informed decisions, and healthy behaviors.

C – Consolidation (Conclusion & Assessment) Time: 5–10 minutes
Summary: Students summarize key points on pregnancy prevention and contraceptives.
Evaluation Method (Expanded):
Exit slip/quiz: Write one method of preventing pregnancy and explain its importance. Teacher provides oral feedback.
Assignment (Expanded): Students create a safety plan demonstrating refusal skills in risky situations.
Follow-up Activity: Role play peer discussions on safe behaviors.
Differentiation / Inclusive Strategies: Provide visual scenarios and guided role-play for learners needing extra support.
