School Name:
Teacher’s Name:
Subject: Physical Education
Grade Level: Grade 5
Date: Week 3
Lesson Duration: 45 minutes
Week & Period: Week 3, Period 1
Topic: Exercises and Muscles
Sub-topic: Deltoid Muscles and Exercises

Learning Objectives
By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:

  1. Demonstrate deltoid exercises.
  2. Identify different parts of the deltoid muscle.

Previous Knowledge
Students already know about basic body parts.

Instructional Materials
Charts of human muscles, dumbbells (or improvised bottles), whistle.

Lesson Development – ABC Model

A – Anticipation (Warm-up / Starter)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Students do arm stretches. Teacher asks them to point to their shoulder muscles.

B – Building Knowledge (Main Lesson Body)
Time: 25–30 minutes

Content:
Teacher introduces the deltoid muscle, located at the shoulder, explaining its role in lifting and moving the arms.

  • Three parts of the deltoid muscle:
    • Anterior (front) deltoid: Helps lift the arm forward.
    • Lateral (side) deltoid: Helps lift the arm to the side.
    • Posterior (back) deltoid: Helps move the arm backward and stabilize the shoulder.

Teacher Demonstration / Practical Examples:

  • Front Raises: Lift arms straight in front to shoulder height → works anterior deltoid.
  • Side Raises: Lift arms sideways to shoulder height → works lateral deltoid.
  • Bent-over (Rear) Raises: Bend forward at the waist, lift arms sideways → works posterior deltoid.
  • Improvised Weights: Students can use water bottles or small sandbags to perform raises.
  • Posture Check: Keep back straight, knees slightly bent, and avoid swinging the arms.

Learners’ Activities (Expanded):

  1. Follow the Teacher: Students mimic each deltoid exercise demonstrated.
  2. Pair Practice: Students work in pairs to observe each other’s form and give feedback on posture and movement.
  3. Repetition Practice: Students perform 10–15 repetitions of each exercise.
  4. Discussion: Students explain which part of the shoulder the exercise targets.

Assessment Checks (Formative):

  • Ask: “Name the three parts of the deltoid muscle.”
  • Ask: “Which exercise works the anterior deltoid?”
  • Observe students performing exercises to ensure correct posture and technique.

Notes (Expanded & Detailed):

  • Function: The deltoid muscle helps lift and move the arms.
  • Parts:
    • Anterior: Front → lifts arms forward.
    • Lateral: Side → lifts arms sideways.
    • Posterior: Back → lifts arms backward.
  • Exercises:
    • Front Raises: Anterior deltoid.
    • Side Raises: Lateral deltoid.
    • Bent-over Raises: Posterior deltoid.
  • Practical Tip: Start with light weights, maintain proper posture, and do controlled movements.

Assignments:

  1. Draw and label the three parts of the deltoid muscle.
  2. Write 3 sentences describing what each deltoid exercise does.
  3. Practice the three deltoid raises at home using small weights and record how many repetitions you can do correctly.

C – Consolidation (Conclusion & Assessment)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Summary: Teacher recaps the deltoid muscle parts and related exercises.

Evaluation Method (Expanded):
Exit slip/quiz: Students write the three parts of the deltoid and one exercise for each. Teacher provides oral feedback.

Assignment (Expanded):
Students draw and label the deltoid muscle.

Follow-up Activity:
Students will demonstrate the exercises at home for practice.

Differentiation / Inclusive Strategies
Students with limited strength will use lighter or no weights. Advanced learners will demonstrate for the class.
