Lesson Development – ABC Model

A – Anticipation (Warm-up / Starter)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Teacher asks students to name activities that make them sweat or breathe faster. Students brainstorm examples like running, skipping, or playing football. Teacher leads the class in simple warm-up stretches.

B – Building Knowledge (Main Lesson Body)
Time: 25–30 minutes

Content:
Teacher defines physical fitness as the ability of the body to perform daily activities, sports, and exercises without feeling too tired. Being fit involves being strong, flexible, and healthy.

Importance of Physical Fitness:

  • For Health: Prevents sickness, keeps the heart healthy, strengthens muscles and bones.
  • For Sports: Helps perform better, avoid injuries, and recover quickly.
  • For Daily Activities: Makes walking, climbing stairs, carrying objects, and working easier and less tiring.

Screening:

  • Teacher explains that screening checks if the body is ready for exercise.
  • Examples include checking pulse, strength, flexibility, and endurance before starting activities.
  • Screening helps prevent injuries and ensures exercises are done safely.

Teacher Demonstration / Practical Examples:

  • Jumping Jacks: Demonstrate proper form and count 10–15 repetitions.
  • Squats: Show correct posture: back straight, knees bent, and feet shoulder-width apart.
  • Stretching: Neck, shoulders, arms, and legs.
  • Before-and-After Reflection: Ask students how they feel before and after exercises to understand changes in heart rate, breathing, and energy.

Learners’ Activities (Expanded):

  1. Discussion: Students talk about what physical fitness means to them.
  2. Sharing Examples: Students list activities that help them stay fit, such as skipping, swimming, cycling, walking, or playing football.
  3. Practical Exercises: Students perform jumping jacks, squats, and stretches under teacher guidance.
  4. Reflection: Students note how their bodies feel before, during, and after exercises.
  5. Pair Work: Students check each other’s form and give feedback on posture and movement.

Assessment Checks (Formative):

  • Ask: “What is physical fitness?”
  • Ask: “Why is physical fitness important for health and sports?”
  • Observe students performing exercises for correct technique and participation.

Notes (Expanded & Detailed):

  • Definition: Physical fitness is the ability to carry out daily tasks, sports, and exercises without feeling too tired.
  • Importance: Prevents sickness, builds strength, improves sports performance, and supports daily life activities.
  • Screening: Helps check body readiness, avoid injuries, and identify areas for improvement.
  • Practical Tip: Warm-up before exercises, maintain correct posture, and listen to your body’s signals.

Assignments:

  1. Write 3 sentences explaining what physical fitness means to you.
  2. List 5 activities that help you stay fit and indicate which part of the body they strengthen.
  3. Perform 5 minutes of light exercises at home and record how your body feels before and after.
  4. Draw a simple illustration showing yourself performing one fitness exercise and label the main body parts used.

C – Consolidation (Conclusion & Assessment)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Summary: Teacher reviews the meaning of physical fitness and its importance for health, sports, and daily life.

Evaluation Method (Expanded):
Exit slip/quiz: Students write one definition of physical fitness and one reason it is important. Teacher will collect slips and provide oral feedback.

Assignment (Expanded):
Students list three activities they do at home that improve their fitness.

Follow-up Activity:
Students will observe their pulse rate after playing or running at home and report next class.

Differentiation / Inclusive Strategies
Slow learners will explain with simple examples, advanced learners will lead demonstrations.
