Instructional Materials
Lesson Development – ABC Model
A – Anticipation (Warm-up / Starter)
Teacher asks two students to role-play describing a friend: “Voici mon ami. Il est grand et gentil.”
B – Building Knowledge (Main Lesson Body)
Time: 25–30 minutes
Teacher begins by modeling short, natural dialogues incorporating descriptive adjectives to demonstrate how to use them in everyday conversation. Example dialogue:
A: C’est ta sœur ? (Is that your sister?)
B: Oui, elle est jolie et jeune. (Yes, she is pretty and young.)
Teacher explains how to link multiple adjectives in French using “et” (and) and reminds students of the importance of adjective agreement in gender and number. Teacher encourages learners to think beyond single adjective use and combine them for richer descriptions.
Examples provided:
• Il est grand et méchant. (He is tall and mean.)
• La maison est sale et vieille. (The house is dirty and old.)
• Ma mère est heureuse et gentille. (My mother is happy and kind.)
Activities:
• Role-play in pairs: students create dialogues similar to the model, asking and answering questions about people or objects, using two or more adjectives.
• Group writing exercise: students collaborate to write short descriptive paragraphs about family members, friends, or classroom objects, integrating multiple adjectives.
• Oral presentations: students present their paragraphs or dialogues to the class, practicing pronunciation, fluency, and correct adjective agreement.
Learners’ Activities (Expanded):
• Individually, students write a descriptive paragraph (4–5 sentences) about a family member, friend, or favorite classroom object, incorporating at least two adjectives.
• In pairs, students practice and perform role-play dialogues focusing on natural conversation with descriptive adjectives.
• Group feedback sessions where peers listen and provide constructive comments on adjective use and fluency.
Assessment Checks:
• Teacher listens and evaluates the accuracy of adjective agreement in oral role-plays.
• Written paragraphs are checked for appropriate adjective use, sentence structure, and coherence.
• Fluency and natural use of language are assessed during oral presentations.
Notes (Expanded & Detailed):
• Combining adjectives enhances descriptive language and makes communication more engaging and detailed.
• Consistent reinforcement of gender and number agreement is essential as complexity increases.
• Role-plays and presentations build confidence and prepare learners for practical use of language beyond the classroom.
• Encourage students to expand their vocabulary gradually and experiment with new adjective combinations.
C – Consolidation (Conclusion & Assessment)
Summary: class reflects on how adjectives make French speech more descriptive and detailed.
Evaluation Method (Expanded): students read their written descriptions aloud; teacher gives feedback on pronunciation and agreement.
Assignment (Expanded): write a paragraph (5–6 sentences) describing a friend or family member, using at least 4 adjectives.
Follow-up Activity: prepare for review and assessment of the adjectives unit.
Differentiation / Inclusive Strategies: weaker students present 2–3 sentence descriptions; stronger ones write and present longer paragraphs with multiple adjectives.
