Learning Objectives
By the end of the lesson, students should be able to explain the physical, health, mental, and social benefits of PE, relate PE to overall health, and give examples of daily exercises that promote well-being.

Previous Knowledge
Students already know that exercise makes the body strong and have engaged in sports.

Instructional Materials
Pictures of people exercising, chart showing health benefits of PE.

Lesson Development – ABC Model
A – Anticipation (Warm-up / Starter)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Teacher asks: “Why do we exercise?” Learners respond with ideas like to be strong or to play better. Teacher introduces the importance of PE.

B – Building Knowledge (Main Lesson Body)

Time: 25–30 minutes

  1. Physical Importance of PE
  • Builds strength – Muscles become stronger through activities like push-ups, lifting objects, and climbing.
  • Increases stamina – Stamina means the ability to keep doing an activity for a long time without getting tired quickly. Jogging, running, and swimming build stamina.
  • Improves flexibility – Flexibility means the body can bend and stretch easily without pain. Stretching, yoga, and dancing improve flexibility.
  • Boosts endurance – Endurance is the ability to keep going during hard activities. Running longer distances and skipping rope improve endurance.

Example: An athlete trains daily in running to build stamina and endurance for a competition. A dancer practices stretching to improve flexibility.

  1. Health Importance of PE
  • Improves blood circulation – Regular movement helps the heart pump blood well.
  • Prevents obesity – Exercise helps burn fat and keeps the body at a healthy weight.
  • Strengthens bones – Jumping, running, and climbing make bones stronger.
  • Prevents diseases – Regular exercise reduces the risk of diabetes, heart disease, and weak muscles.

Example: A child who cycles to school daily is less likely to become overweight and has strong leg muscles and bones.

  1. Mental and Social Benefits
  • Teamwork – Playing games like football teaches learners to work with others.
  • Leadership – Captains in games learn how to guide and motivate teammates.
  • Discipline – Sports teach following rules and respecting others.
  • Self-confidence – Achieving goals in exercise makes learners believe in themselves.
  • Reduces stress – Running or dancing after studying helps the mind relax.

Example: A learner who joins a relay race gains teamwork skills, confidence, and stress relief.

  1. Relationship with Health
  • Regular participation in PE keeps both body and mind healthy.
  • It balances physical growth (strong muscles and bones), mental growth (clear thinking, stress relief), and social growth (teamwork, friendship).
  • Saying: “A healthy mind lives in a healthy body.”

  1. Examples of Daily Exercises
  • Jogging – Running lightly in the morning or evening.
  • Cycling – Riding a bicycle to build stamina and leg strength.
  • Skipping – Jump rope improves coordination and fitness.
  • Stretching – Helps muscles relax after waking up or before sports.
  • Walking to school – A simple way to stay active and healthy every day.

Learners’ Activities (Expanded)

  1. Teacher demonstrates jumping jacks and squats; learners copy and repeat.
  2. In groups, learners perform short stretching routines and describe how their bodies feel afterward.
  3. Learners write short notes on why they enjoy a favorite sport or exercise (e.g., “I like skipping because it makes me feel energetic”).
  4. Class discusses the difference between exercising for fun and exercising for health.

Assessment Checks

  • Teacher asks:
  1. Mention two physical benefits of PE.
  2. State one mental or social benefit of PE.
  3. Give one example of daily exercise that learners can do at home or school.
  • Teacher observes learners’ demonstration of exercises and their group discussions.

Notes (Expanded & Detailed)

  • PE improves the body physically by building strength, stamina, flexibility, and endurance.
  • It improves health by helping circulation, preventing obesity, and strengthening bones.
  • It improves the mind by reducing stress, building self-confidence, and teaching teamwork and discipline.
  • It improves social life by encouraging leadership and cooperation.
  • Conclusion: PE is necessary for complete growth—physical, mental, and social well-being.

Assignments

  1. Write five sentences on the physical benefits of PE.
  2. List three health benefits of daily exercise.
  3. Mention two mental or social benefits of sports you have experienced.
  4. Draw or paste a picture of your favorite daily exercise and label it.
  5. Interview a parent or elder and ask: “What exercises did you do as a child?” Write their response in your notebook.

C – Consolidation (Conclusion & Assessment)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Summary: PE benefits the body, health, and mind. It builds discipline, teamwork, and overall well-being.

Evaluation Method (Expanded): Exit slip/quiz: List two benefits of PE to health and one benefit to mental growth.

Assignment (Expanded): Write five ways PE can improve your life.

Follow-up Activity: Learners keep a daily exercise log for one week.

Differentiation / Inclusive Strategies
Teacher modifies exercises for learners with limitations. Peer encouragement is encouraged.
