Lesson Development – ABC Model

A – Anticipation
Time: 5–10 minutes
Teacher asks: “Muslims read from the Qur’an. Do you know what it says about creation?”

B – Building Knowledge (Main Lesson Body)

Time: 25–30 minutes
Topic: The Qur’anic Account of Creation

  1. Full Explanation: Qur’anic Account of Creation

According to the Qur’an, Allah (the Islamic name for God) is the sole Creator of everything in the universe. The Qur’an repeatedly emphasizes that Allah created the heavens, the earth, the sun, moon, stars, plants, animals, and human beings, and that He did so with wisdom, power, and purpose.

The creation is seen as a sign (ayah) of Allah's greatness, and believers are encouraged to observe nature and reflect on Allah’s power.

Key Points from the Qur’an:

  • Allah created everything in stages (Surah Fussilat 41:9–12).
  • He created man from clay (Surah Al-Mu’minun 23:12–14).
  • Allah created the sun and moon to measure time (Surah Yunus 10:5).
  • He created everything with purpose, not by chance (Surah Sad 38:27).

  1. Comparison: Bible and Qur’an on Creation

Aspect

Bible (Genesis)

Qur’an

Creator

God

Allah

Creation Process

6 days of creation, 7th day rest

Stages of creation over periods of time

Man’s Origin

Formed from dust, in God’s image

Created from clay, shaped and given life

Order of Creation

Light, sky, land, plants, sun, animals

Heavens, earth, sun, moon, animals, humans

Purpose

To care for creation, worship God

To worship Allah, live rightly, and reflect

Rest

God rested on the 7th day

No mention of rest; Allah is never tired

Both scriptures teach that:

  • God/Allah is the only Creator
  • The world was made with wisdom and purpose
  • Human beings have a special role
  • Nature is to be respected and cared for

  1. Key Lessons Muslims Learn from the Qur’anic Account
  • Allah is Almighty and Wise
The creation story shows that Allah is all-powerful and has knowledge of all things.
  • Man Must Worship Allah
Humans were created to worship Allah alone (Surah Adh-Dhariyat 51:56 – "I did not create jinn and humans except to worship Me").
  • Man Has a Duty to Care for the Earth
Muslims are taught to be khalifah (stewards or caretakers) of the earth.
  • Everything Created is a Sign
Muslims are encouraged to reflect on nature to strengthen their faith.

  1. Practical Activity

Classroom Comparison Exercise:

  • Learners work in small groups to compare the creation story in the Bible and the Qur’an.
  • They create a Venn diagram or chart showing:
    • What is similar
    • What is different
  • Groups present their findings to the class.
  1. Learners’ Activities (Expanded)
  • Learners read selected verses from the Qur’an (provided or read aloud by the teacher) that describe creation.
  • Learners write down three key things Allah created, according to the Qur’an.
  • Learners draw a picture or diagram of Allah’s creation—sun, moon, animals, humans, etc.
  • Students reflect in writing: “What does the Qur’an teach me about the world and my role in it?”
  • Group discussion on why it’s important to care for the earth as part of worship.

  1. Assessment Checks

Teacher checks understanding through oral or written questions:

  1. Who created the heavens and the earth according to the Qur’an?
    (Answer: Allah)
  2. What material did Allah use to create man?
    (Answer: Clay)
  3. What does the Qur’an say is the purpose of creation?
    (Answer: To worship Allah)
  4. Give one difference between the Bible and Qur’an creation accounts.
  5. Mention one way Muslims show respect to Allah as the Creator.
(Answer: Praying five times daily, caring for the earth, being thankful)

  1. Notes (Expanded and Detailed)
  • The Qur’an teaches that Allah alone created everything in the universe.
  • Creation is presented as a miracle of Allah’s wisdom and power.
  • Allah created everything in perfect balance and harmony, with no flaws.
  • No specific days are mentioned as in the Bible, but creation happened in measured stages.
  • The Qur’an does not mention Allah resting because He does not get tired (Surah Qaf 50:38).
  • The purpose of human life is to worship Allah and act as caretakers of the earth.

C – Consolidation
Time: 5–10 minutes
Summary: The Qur’an teaches Allah created everything. Both Bible and Qur’an teach creation with power and order.

Evaluation Method: Exit slip: Write one similarity between Bible and Qur’an creation accounts.

Assignment: Write two lessons Muslims learn from creation.

Follow-up Activity: Share with classmates one Islamic teaching about creation.

Differentiation / Inclusive Strategies
Teacher encourages Muslim learners to share from their faith, Christian learners to compare with Bible, all others to reflect.
