Teacher Explanation:
The teacher begins by defining resurrection as the act of coming back to life after death. It is a major belief in Christianity, Islam, and is reflected in some forms of Traditional African Religion. Resurrection gives hope to believers that death is not the end, and encourages them to live good and faithful lives.

  1. Resurrection in Christianity:

Christians believe in the resurrection of Jesus Christ as the foundation of their faith. Jesus rose from the dead on the third day after His crucifixion, showing victory over sin and death.

  • Biblical Example: 1 Corinthians 15:20 – “But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.”
  • Jesus’ resurrection proves that believers will also rise from the dead and live eternally with God.
  • Christians also believe in a future resurrection of all believers at the end of time.

  1. Resurrection in Islam:

Muslims believe in the Day of Judgment, when all the dead will be resurrected and judged by Allah for their deeds.

  • Qur’anic Example: Qur’an 22:7 – “And that the Hour will come, there is no doubt about it, and that Allah will resurrect those who are in the graves.”
  • The resurrection is a time when people will receive either reward (Paradise) or punishment (Hell) based on their actions in life.
  • This belief encourages Muslims to obey Allah, live righteously, and seek forgiveness.

  1. Resurrection in Traditional Beliefs:

In African Traditional Religion, resurrection is not always seen as physical rising from the dead, but many believe the spirit of the dead continues to live among the family as an ancestor. Though different from Christian or Islamic belief, it still reflects the idea that life does not end at death.

Representation in Religious Teachings and Art:

  • In Christian art, resurrection is shown by images of Jesus rising from the tomb or appearing to His disciples.
  • In Islamic teachings, resurrection is described in the Qur’an and Hadith, though not often shown in pictures due to religious guidelines.
  • In African culture, stories, masks, or symbols may represent the ongoing life of ancestors.

Learners’ Activities (Expanded):

  • Reading Scriptures: Students read selected verses: 1 Corinthians 15:3–8 (Jesus’ resurrection), Qur’an 22:7 (resurrection on the Day of Judgment).
  • Group Discussion: How resurrection is understood in their own faith traditions.
  • Creative Illustration: Students draw a scene representing resurrection in Christianity or Islam (e.g., Jesus rising from the tomb or a scene from the Day of Judgment).
  • Drama or Role-play: Small groups dramatize the story of the resurrection or act out what happens on the Day of Judgment in Islamic teaching (using respectful symbolic actions).

Assessment Checks:

Teacher asks oral or written questions such as:

  • “What is resurrection?”
  • “Who was resurrected in the Bible?”
  • “What does the Qur’an say about resurrection?”
  • “What is one similarity between Christian and Muslim beliefs about resurrection?”
  • “How does belief in resurrection affect how people live?”

Notes (Expanded & Detailed):

Resurrection means coming back to life after death.

  • Christians believe Jesus was resurrected, and all believers will be resurrected at the end of time.
  • Muslims believe in resurrection on the Day of Judgment when all people will rise from the dead and be judged by Allah.
  • Traditional African Religion emphasizes spiritual continuation through ancestors rather than bodily resurrection.

Belief in resurrection gives hope, comfort, and encourages good moral behavior. It reminds people that their actions matter and that they are accountable for how they live.
