Lesson Development – ABC Model

A – Anticipation (Warm-up / Starter)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Teacher asks: Who is your mother, and what role does she play in your life? Teacher then introduces Mary as the mother of Jesus.

B – Building Knowledge (Main Lesson Body)
Time: 25–30 minutes

Teacher Explanation:
The teacher begins by introducing Mary as a humble young woman who was specially chosen by God for a very important role in history. At the annunciation, the Angel Gabriel appeared to Mary and told her that she would give birth to Jesus through the power of the Holy Spirit, even though she was a virgin. This miraculous event is called the virgin birth. Mary’s immediate and willing acceptance of God’s plan shows her great faith and humility.

Mary continued to support Jesus throughout His life and ministry. She was present at significant moments such as the wedding at Cana, where Jesus performed His first miracle by turning water into wine, and she stood faithfully by Jesus during His crucifixion at the cross. These moments highlight her unwavering faith and obedience.

Key Lessons from Mary:

  • Humility: Mary accepted God’s will with a humble heart, trusting in His plan without hesitation.
  • Faith: She believed in God’s promises even when she didn’t fully understand how they would happen.
  • Obedience: Mary said “yes” to God’s calling, demonstrating complete surrender and trust.

Scripture Examples:

  • Luke 1:38 – Mary’s response to Angel Gabriel: “I am the Lord’s servant... May your word to me be fulfilled.”
  • John 2:1–11 – The wedding at Cana where Mary encouraged Jesus to perform His first miracle.
  • John 19:25 – Mary standing near the cross, showing her faithfulness and support during Jesus’ suffering.

Learners’ Activities (Expanded):
Students participate in a role-play activity acting out the annunciation scene, with one student as Mary and another as Angel Gabriel. Afterwards, they break into small groups to discuss what lessons they can learn from Mary’s response and attitude. To deepen understanding, students create drawings or posters depicting Mary supporting Jesus—such as at the wedding at Cana or at the cross—highlighting her role as a devoted mother and follower.

Assessment Checks:
The teacher asks questions to check understanding, such as:

  • “What did Mary say when Angel Gabriel came to her?”
  • “How did Mary show obedience to God’s plan?”
These questions encourage students to reflect on Mary’s faith and humble acceptance.

Notes (Expanded & Detailed):
Mary holds a place of great respect in Christianity as a model of faith, humility, and devotion. Her life teaches believers to trust God’s plan and remain faithful even when faced with challenges and uncertainty. Through Mary’s example, Christians learn the importance of saying “yes” to God with courage and humility, trusting in His guidance.

C – Consolidation (Conclusion & Assessment)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Summary: Mary’s humility, obedience, and faith make her a role model for Christians.

Evaluation Method (Expanded):
Exit slip: Write one lesson from Mary’s life that you can apply today.
Teacher will collect and give oral feedback.

Assignment (Expanded):
Students write a paragraph on why Mary is important in the life of Jesus and Christians.

Follow-up Activity:
Students share with parents the story of Mary’s obedience and discuss its meaning at home.

Differentiation / Inclusive Strategies
Use drama for learners who struggle with writing. Pair students for group work to support weaker learners.
