A – Anticipation (Warm-up / Starter)
Time: 5–10 minutes

  • Quick oral drill: Teacher asks pupils to recall numbers 91–100.
  • Short review of days and months already encountered in simple greetings (e.g., “Aujourd’hui, c’est lundi”).
    Teacher’s Role: Correct pronunciation, guide participation.
    Learner’s Role: Respond orally, recall prior knowledge.

B – Building Knowledge (Main Lesson Body)

Time: 25–30 minutes

  1. Days of the Week (Les jours de la semaine)
  • Introduce all 7 days:
    • lundi, mardi, mercredi, jeudi, vendredi, samedi, dimanche.
  • Teacher writes them on the board, underlines endings (–di, –che, –di).
  • Pronunciation drill: repeat chorally, then individually.
  • Teacher question: “Quel jour sommes-nous aujourd’hui ?”
    • Pupils answer: “Nous sommes lundi / mardi …”

Extra examples:

  • Hier, c’était mercredi. Aujourd’hui, c’est jeudi. Demain, ce sera vendredi.
  • Mini dialogue:
    • A: Quel jour sommes-nous aujourd’hui ?
    • B: Nous sommes dimanche.

 

  1. Months of the Year (Les mois de l’année)
  • Introduce 12 months: janvier, février, mars, avril, mai, juin, juillet, août, septembre, octobre, novembre, décembre.
  • Drill spelling & pronunciation (focus on août, septembre, février).
  • Dialogue example:
    • A: En quel mois sommes-nous ?
    • B: Nous sommes en septembre.

Extra Example:

  • Mon anniversaire est en mars.
  • L’école commence en septembre.

 

  1. Telling Time (Dire l’heure)
  • Key expressions:
    • Quelle heure est-il ? (What time is it?)
    • Il est … heure(s) … minute(s).
  • Examples:
    • Il est huit heures.
    • Il est neuf heures et quart. (9:15)
    • Il est dix heures et demie. (10:30)
    • Il est onze heures moins le quart. (10:45)

Activity: Show clock faces on flashcards, ask pupils to say the time.

 

  1. Telling the Date (Dire la date)
  • Structure: Aujourd’hui, c’est le [date] [month].
  • Example: Aujourd’hui, c’est le 3 septembre.
  • Teacher asks pupils to write today’s date in French on the board.

Extra examples:

  • Demain, ce sera le 15 octobre.
  • Mon anniversaire est le 22 mai.

 

  1. Numbers 100–200 (Les nombres de 100 à 200)
  • Introduce:
    • 100 = cent
    • 101 = cent un
    • 115 = cent quinze
    • 120 = cent vingt
    • 130 = cent trente
    • 145 = cent quarante-cinq
    • 199 = cent quatre-vingt-dix-neuf
    • 200 = deux cents
  • Drill pronunciation: teacher says numbers → pupils repeat chorally and individually.
  • Practice writing numbers in words.

Activity: Teacher calls out numbers, pupils write them; then switch (pupils say numbers, teacher writes).

 

  1. Practical Activity / Dialogue Practice

Pupils combine days, months, time, dates, and numbers:

  • A: Quel jour sommes-nous ?
  • B: Nous sommes mardi.
  • A: Quelle est la date aujourd’hui ?
  • B: Aujourd’hui, c’est le 15 octobre.
  • A: Quelle heure est-il ?
  • B: Il est treize heures vingt.

Extra activity: Pupils make up 5–6 line dialogues including birthday dates, school time, and daily routines.
