B – Building Knowledge (Main Lesson Body)

Time: 25–30 minutes

  1. Introduction to Demonstrative Adjectives
  • Teacher explains that demonstrative adjectives are used to point out or indicate specific objects or people.
  • Forms:
    • Ce → masculine singular before consonant (ex: ce livre – this/that book).
    • Cet → masculine singular before vowel or mute h (ex: cet homme – this/that man, cet hôtel).
    • Cette → feminine singular (ex: cette fille – this/that girl).
    • Ces → plural for both masculine and feminine (ex: ces garçons – these/those boys).

Examples (on board and orally):

  • Ce cahier est bleu. (This notebook is blue.)
  • Cet élève est intelligent. (This student is intelligent.)
  • Cette maison est grande. (This house is big.)
  • Ces tables sont propres. (These tables are clean.)

👉 Emphasize agreement in gender (masc/fem) and number (sing/plural).

  1. Guided Practice
  • Teacher holds or points to classroom items, asking pupils to identify them using demonstrative adjectives.
    • Teacher: (holding a book) → “Qu’est-ce que c’est ?”
    • Pupil: “C’est ce livre.”
    • Teacher: (pointing to a window) → Pupil: “C’est cette fenêtre.”
  • Teacher writes sentences with errors on the board:
    • Cet fille est gentille.
    • Pupils correct: Cette fille est gentille.
  • Continue with 6–8 examples mixing ce/cet/cette/ces.

  1. Revision through Role-plays and Dialogues
  • Teacher models a dialogue revising greetings, introductions, and descriptions while integrating demonstrative adjectives.

Example Dialogue (on board):

  • A: Bonjour, je m’appelle Marie. Et toi ?
  • B: Salut, je m’appelle Daniel. Quel âge as-tu ?
  • A: J’ai quatorze ans. Voici mon livre.
  • B: Ce livre est intéressant !
  • A: Merci. Et qui est-ce ?
  • B: C’est mon ami. Cet élève est très intelligent.
  • A: Oui, et ces élèves sont studieux aussi.
  • Pupils pair up to create their own 5–6 line dialogues using ce, cet, cette, ces with classroom objects, friends, and greetings.

    • Group 3: “Ces cahiers sont neufs.”
  • Rotate roles so each pupil speaks.
