Learning Objectives

  3. Communicate preferences and ask/answer questions about transport choices.
  4. Engage in role-play dialogues using transport vocabulary and expressions.
  5. Gain confidence in applying transport vocabulary in real-life situations.

  • Basic nouns and articles (un, une, des)
  • Present tense conjugation of common verbs (être, avoir, aller, faire, etc.)
  • Vocabulary for classroom objects, people, and descriptive adjectives
  • Simple question structures (Est-ce que…, Qui est-ce ?, Qu’est-ce que c’est ?)

Lesson Development – ABC Model

A – Anticipation (Warm-up / Starter)
Time: 5–10 minutes

  • Teacher shows pictures of different transport modes.
  • Pupils name each transport in French: taxi, bus, voiture, train, avion, bateau, moto, vélo.
  • Quick drill: Repeat vocabulary aloud, teacher corrects pronunciation.

B – Building Knowledge (Main Lesson Body)

Time: 25–30 minutes

  1. Introduction to Transport Vocabulary
  • Teacher presents vocabulary and groups them:
    • Land: taxi, bus, voiture, train, moto, vélo
    • Air: avion
    • Sea: bateau
  • Pupils repeat aloud in chorus and individually.
  • Teacher uses flashcards/pictures to reinforce meaning.
  • Quick activity: Pupils raise their hands when the teacher calls a word for land, sea, or air.

Examples:

  • Le taxi → J’aime le taxi.
  • L’avion → L’avion est rapide.
  • Le bateau → Le bateau est grand.

 

  1. Expressions Related to Transport
  • Teacher explains and models phrases:
    • Aller en taxi (to go by taxi)
    • Voyager en voiture (to travel by car)
    • Prendre le bus (to take the bus)
    • Prendre un billet / un ticket (to take/buy a ticket)

Examples in sentences:

  • Je vais en taxi pour aller à l’école.
  • Nous voyageons en voiture le week-end.
  • Tu prends le bus pour aller au marché.
  • Mon père prend un billet à la gare.

Guided practice:

  • Pupils create new sentences using the structures.
  • Teacher writes some on the board, correcting grammar and pronunciation.

 

  1. Role-play Practice
  • Teacher sets up dialogues:
    • A: Quel transport prends-tu pour aller à l’école ?
    • B: Je prends le bus. Et toi ?
    • A: Je vais en taxi.
  • Pupils work in pairs, practicing short dialogues by changing transport modes.
  • Teacher circulates, correcting and guiding.

 

  1. Written Practice
  • Pupils complete worksheet activities:
  1. Match vocabulary with correct pictures.
  2. Fill in the blanks:
    • Je vais ___ taxi.
    • Nous ___ le bus.
    • Papa ___ un billet.
  3. Write 3 full sentences about how they travel to school, the market, or church.
