Lesson Development – ABC Model
A – Anticipation (Warm-up / Starter)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Activity: The teacher will ask the class:

B – BUILDING KNOWLEDGE (Main Lesson Body)

Teacher’s Role:
• Explain common diseases such as malaria, cholera, respiratory infections, typhoid, and diarrhea.
• Describe each disease’s causes, symptoms, and modes of transmission:

  • Malaria: Caused by mosquito bites; symptoms include fever, chills, and headache.
  • Cholera: Caused by contaminated water; symptoms include watery diarrhea and dehydration.
  • Respiratory infections: Spread through coughing and sneezing; symptoms include cough, fever, and difficulty breathing.
  • Typhoid: Caused by bacteria in contaminated food/water; symptoms include fever, stomach pain, and nausea.
  • Diarrhea: Often due to poor sanitation or contaminated water; symptoms include frequent loose stools and dehydration.
    • Discuss preventive measures in detail:
  • Sanitation: Proper disposal of waste and keeping surroundings clean.
  • Clean water: Boiling water or using safe water sources.
  • Mosquito nets: Sleeping under treated nets to prevent malaria.
  • Vaccination: Immunization against preventable diseases such as polio and measles.
  • Balanced diet: Provides nutrients to strengthen immunity.
    • Relate preventive measures to Liberia:
  • Cite malaria prevalence in communities.
  • Discuss local community sanitation campaigns and school health programs.
