Lesson Development – ABC Model
A – Anticipation (Warm-up / Starter)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Activity: The teacher will ask the class:
• “What comes to mind when you hear ‘physical fitness’?”
• “Why do you think people exercise regularly?”
The teacher will record their responses on the board.
Teacher’s Role: Guide a short brainstorming session, correct misconceptions, and introduce the lesson topic.

B – BUILDING KNOWLEDGE (Main Lesson Body)
Time: 25–30 minutes

• Explain and demonstrate:

  • Definition of Physical Fitness: The ability to perform daily tasks efficiently while maintaining health and well-being.
  • Components of Physical Fitness: Strength, endurance, flexibility, balance, and coordination.
  • Historical Background:
    • Early fitness practices in ancient civilizations (running, lifting, calisthenics).
    • Evolution to modern physical fitness routines and organized sports.
    • Liberia-specific practices: traditional games, community sports, school fitness programs.
  • General Importance:
    • Maintaining health and preventing diseases.
    • Enhancing daily performance in school, work, and physical activities.
    • Improving mental well-being, concentration, and stress management.

• Discuss examples of physical fitness activities they know (e.g., running, traditional dances, football, gym routines).
• Observe teacher demonstrations of basic fitness exercises.

C – Consolidation (Conclusion & Assessment)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Summary:
• The teacher will ask students to recall the definition, historical background, and importance of physical fitness.

• Exit slip/quiz: Students will write short answers to:

  1. Define physical fitness.
  2. Give one historical fact about fitness.
  3. Explain one reason physical fitness is important.

    Assignment (Expanded): Students will list five physical activities they can do at home or school to improve fitness and note which fitness components each activity targets.
