Learning Objectives
By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:

  1. Use C’est + article indéfini + adjectif + noun to present and describe people or objects.
  2. Use Voici… and Il a + adjectif + noun to describe features.
  3. Apply color adjectives correctly in descriptions (e.g., bleu, rouge, vert).
  4. Construct short sentences combining size, color, and shape adjectives.
  5. Write and perform mini dialogues or oral presentations using these structures.

Previous Knowledge
Students already know:
• Vocabulary for physical features, objects, and places.
• Adjective agreement (masculine/feminine, singular/plural).
• The verb être in present tense and descriptive sentences (Il est…, Elle est…).
• Comparisons and simple descriptive phrases from Week 31.

Lesson Development – ABC Model

A – Anticipation (Warm-up / Starter)
Time: 5–7 minutes
Activity:
• Teacher asks: “Montrez-moi votre livre préféré ou objet. Comment est-il ?”
• Pupils respond orally: “C’est un livre bleu. Il a un gros ventre.”
• Teacher introduces the lesson: using C’est…, Voici…, and Il a… to describe people and objects.

Learners’ Role: Recall vocabulary, participate orally, observe visual cues.

B – Building Knowledge (Main Lesson Body)

Time: 25–30 minutes

  1. Présentatif & Object Description (8 minutes)

Structures to Teach:

  • C’est + article indéfini + adjectif + nom → C’est un gros livre.
  • Voici… → Voici un sac rouge.
  • Il/Elle a + adjectif + nom → Il a un gros ventre.

Teacher Practice:

  • Uses classroom objects (book, bag, ball, box).
  • Demonstrates orally + writes on board:
    • C’est un petit ballon bleu.
    • Voici une boîte rouge.
    • Elle a une tête ronde.
  • Pupils repeat chorally → then individually.

Learners’ Tasks:

  • Pupils look around classroom → describe at least 2 objects aloud.
  • Pair activity: one pupil holds an object, the other describes it.
  • Example:
    • Élève A: Voici un stylo.
    • Élève B: C’est un petit stylo noir. Il a une pointe fine.

 

  1. Color & Shape Adjectives (5–7 minutes)

Target Adjectives:

  • Colors: bleu/bleue, rouge, vert/verte, jaune, noir/noire, blanc/blanche, gris/grise, violet/violette
  • Shapes & Size: rond(e), carré(e), long(ue), court(e), gros(se), petit(e), grand(e)

Teacher Practice:

  • Holds up real objects / flashcards and models sentences:
    • C’est un livre bleu.
    • Le tableau est grand et noir.
    • La balle est ronde.

Learners’ Tasks:

  • Quick oral drill: Teacher asks “Le sac est… ?” → Pupils reply: Le sac est rouge et carré.
  • Matching game: pupils connect adjective cards with object pictures.

 

  1. Sentence Construction Practice (8–10 minutes)

Teacher Example Sentences:

  • C’est un gros livre bleu.
  • Voici un sac rouge.
  • Il a un gros ventre.

Learners’ Tasks:

  1. Pupils form sentences using all three structures.
    • Example: C’est une boîte verte et carrée. Voici une balle rouge. Elle a une forme ronde.
  2. Pair activity:
    • Pupil A describes an object, Pupil B guesses which object.
    • Example: C’est un objet petit et long. Voici mon préféré. Il a une gomme rouge. (→ pencil).

 

  1. Mini Role Play / Oral Presentation (7–8 minutes)

Setup: Groups of 3–4 describe objects or classmates.

Rules:

  1. Must use C’est…, Voici…, Il/Elle a…
  2. Must include 1 color adjective + 1 size/shape adjective
  3. Speak for 1–2 minutes

Example Group Dialogue:

  • Élève 1: Voici un ballon bleu.
  • Élève 2: C’est un ballon petit et rond.
  • Élève 3: Il a un gros point rouge dessus.
  • Élève 4: Voici aussi un sac noir. C’est un sac carré.

Performance:

  • Each group presents to class.
  • Teacher + peers check adjective agreement and sentence accuracy.

 

  1. Writing Practice (5–7 minutes)

Task: Pupils write a short paragraph (5–6 lines) describing 2–3 objects or people.

Requirements:

  • At least 2 C’est… sentences
  • At least 1 Voici… sentence
  • At least 1 Il/Elle a… sentence
  • Include color, size, and shape adjectives

Sample Starter:

  • C’est un sac rouge et carré. Voici mon livre bleu. Il a une couverture épaisse. C’est une balle verte et ronde. Voici ma trousse noire.

  1. Vocabulary drill – colors, shapes, sizes.
  2. Sentence building race – groups compete to build correct sentences with C’est… / Voici… / Il a….
  3. Peer oral practice – describe 2 objects to partner.
  4. Group mini-presentation of objects in classroom.

  6. Peer review – exchange notebooks, underline adjectives, check agreements.

Homework Assignment

Task: Write a short paragraph (5–6 lines) describing 3 objects at home or school.

Requirements:

  • At least 2 C’est… sentences
  • 1–2 Voici… sentences
  • 1 Il/Elle a… sentence
  • Use color, size, and shape adjectives

Sample Starter:

  • C’est une chaise blanche et petite. Voici un livre rouge. C’est une boîte bleue et carrée. Il a une couverture épaisse.

C – Consolidation (Conclusion & Exit Task)
Time: 5–10 minutes
• Teacher summarizes key structures: C’est…, Voici…, Il/Elle a…, and color/shape adjectives
• Pupils share one oral sentence from their paragraph
• Exit Task: Each pupil writes one sentence describing an object in class: “C’est un/une ______ ______.”

Differentiation / Inclusive Strategies
• Struggling learners: Use sentence starters, colored cards, and visual prompts
• Advanced learners: Describe more than one object with compound adjectives
