  3. Apply new structures: Faire la lessive, Faire la vaisselle, Nettoyer, Balayer.
  4. Conjugate verbs: nettoyer, salir, se reposer in present tense.
  5. Construct simple sentences describing hygiene habits and household chores.

Students already know:
• Vocabulary related to daily activities and health.
• Using Il faut + infinitive for giving advice.
• Conjugation of regular –er verbs in present tense.

Lesson Development – ABC Model

A – Anticipation (Warm-up / Starter)

Time: 5–7 minutes
Activity:
• Teacher asks: “Que faites-vous pour rester propre ?”
• Pupils respond orally: Je me lave les mains, Je me brosse les dents…
• Teacher introduces vocabulary for hygiene and household chores.
Learners’ Role: Recall and orally list hygiene activities and cleaning verbs.

B – Building Knowledge (Main Lesson Body)

Time: 25–30 minutes

  1. Vocabulary & Expressions Introduction (7 minutes)

Domains & Key Words:

  • Personal Hygiene: se laver les mains (wash hands), se brosser les dents (brush teeth), prendre une douche (take a shower), vêtements propres/sales (clean/dirty clothes), germes (germs), savon (soap), serviette (towel).
  • Household Chores: faire la lessive (do laundry), faire la vaisselle (do the dishes), nettoyer (to clean), balayer (to sweep), ranger (to tidy up).

Teacher Practice:

  • Shows flashcards/realia (soap, toothbrush, broom, dirty shirt).
  • Models correct pronunciation → pupils repeat chorally, then individually.
  • Writes sample sentences on the board:
    • Je me lave les mains avant de manger.
    • Je me brosse les dents le matin.
    • Je fais la lessive chaque samedi.
    • Ma sœur balaie la cour chaque jour.

Learners’ Activity:

  • Pupils come up with oral examples using hygiene and chores vocabulary.

  1. Grammar – Conjugation Practice (7 minutes)

Target Verbs: nettoyer, salir, se reposer

Conjugation on the board:

  • Nettoyer: je nettoie, tu nettoies, il/elle nettoie, nous nettoyons, vous nettoyez, ils/elles nettoient
  • Salir: je salis, tu salis, il/elle salit, nous salissons, vous salissez, ils/elles salissent
  • Se reposer: je me repose, tu te reposes, il/elle se repose, nous nous reposons, vous vous reposez, ils/elles se reposent

Teacher Drill:

  • Teacher calls out a subject, pupils respond quickly with correct conjugation.
  • Examples:
    • Je ______ ma chambre. (nettoyer → Je nettoie ma chambre.)
    • Tu ______ les habits. (salir → Tu salis les habits.)
    • Nous ______ après le travail. (se reposer → Nous nous reposons après le travail.)

Learners’ Practice:

  • Pupils write 3 sentences each with the new verbs.
  • One affirmative + one negative + one question.
  1. Sentence Construction & Practice (6–7 minutes)

Step 1: Individual Sentences

  • Pupils create 2–3 sentences about hygiene and chores.
    • Je prends une douche chaque matin.
    • Je nettoie ma chambre le samedi.
    • Je me repose après avoir fait mes devoirs.

Step 2: Combining into a Paragraph

  • Teacher shows example:
    • Je me lave les mains tous les jours. Je me brosse les dents matin et soir. Je fais la lessive le samedi et je nettoie ma chambre chaque semaine. Après les tâches ménagères, je me repose.

Learners’ Practice:

  • Pupils write their own mini-paragraphs (4–5 lines).
  1. Role Play – Hygiene & Household Chores (6–7 minutes)

Setup: Pupils work in pairs or small groups.

  • Scenario 1: A student reminds another about hygiene.
    • A: Tu vas manger ?
    • B: Oui.
    • A: Il faut se laver les mains avant de manger !
  • Scenario 2: Pupils discuss chores at home.
    • A: Je fais la vaisselle ce soir.
    • B: D’accord, moi je balaie la chambre.

Rules:

  1. Use at least 3 target verbs (nettoyer, salir, se reposer).
  2. Use at least 2 hygiene expressions (se laver les mains, prendre une douche, vêtements propres).
  3. Speak in full sentences (not one-word answers).

Learners’ Activity:

  • Groups perform role plays for the class.
  • Teacher notes good use of vocabulary and grammar, corrects errors.

 

  1. Writing Practice (5–6 minutes)

Task: Pupils write a 5–7 line paragraph about their hygiene routine and chores.

Requirements:

  • Include at least 3 verbs (nettoyer, salir, se reposer).
  • Use at least 2 hygiene/cleaning vocabulary words.

Example Answer:
Je me lave les mains avant de manger. Je me brosse les dents le matin et le soir. Je nettoie ma chambre le samedi. Je fais la vaisselle après le dîner. Parfois mes habits se salissent, alors je fais la lessive. Après mes tâches ménagères, je me repose un peu.

  1. Oral repetition of new vocabulary and expressions (choral + individual).
  2. Conjugation drill: nettoyer, salir, se reposer (affirmative, negative, interrogative).
  3. Pair work Q&A: “Quelles tâches fais-tu à la maison ?” → “Je fais la lessive/le ménage.”
  4. Role play: one reminds about hygiene, the other discusses chores.
  5. Writing: 5–7 line paragraph on hygiene and chores.

C – Consolidation (Conclusion & Exit Task)

Time: 5–10 minutes
• Teacher summarizes hygiene and chore vocabulary, conjugation, and sentence construction.
• Pupils share one oral sentence about hygiene or chores.
• Exit Task: Each pupil writes: Il faut ______ pour rester propre et en bonne santé.

• Paragraph (5–7 lines) about hygiene and chores.
• Include at least 3 verbs (nettoyer, salir, se reposer) and 2 vocabulary words related to hygiene or cleaning.
