Learning Objectives

By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:

  1. Recognize and use key vocabulary related to health and sanitation (doctor, nurse, hospital, patient, medicine, sick, healthy, clean, dirty).
  2. Express the need to visit a hospital or see a doctor using simple sentences.
  3. Use the new structures Visiter / faire une visite and Se rendre à l’hôpital in context.
  4. Apply the grammar pattern Il faut + infinitive to give advice or instructions about health.
  5. Construct short dialogues involving a patient, doctor, or nurse.

Students already know:
• Vocabulary for everyday activities, shopping, and food.
• Simple sentence construction with verbs in present tense.
• Polite expressions for communication.
• Use of negative sentences (ne… pas).

Lesson Development – ABC Model

A – Anticipation (Warm-up / Starter)

Time: 5–7 minutes
Activity:
• Teacher asks: “Que faites-vous si vous êtes malade ? Où allez-vous ?”
• Pupils respond orally: Je vais à l’hôpital, Je vois le médecin…
• Teacher introduces today’s focus: health and sanitation vocabulary and giving advice using Il faut + infinitive.
Learners’ Role: Recall health-related words and respond orally.

B – Building Knowledge (Main Lesson Body)

Time: 25–30 minutes

  1. Vocabulary & Expression Introduction (7 minutes)

Domains & Key Words:

  • Health: médecin (doctor), infirmier/infirmière (nurse), hôpital (hospital), patient, malade (sick), santé (health), médicament (medicine), ordonnance (prescription), fièvre (fever).
  • Sanitation: propre (clean), sale (dirty), hygiène (hygiene), se laver (to wash), mains (hands).
  • Structures: visiter / faire une visite, se rendre à l’hôpital.

Teacher Practice:

  • Shows flashcards / realia (pictures of hospital, nurse, medicine, clean hands).
  • Pronounces each word, pupils repeat chorally, then individually.
  • Writes examples on board:
    • Je vais chez le médecin.
    • Le patient est malade.
    • L’hôpital doit être propre.
    • Il faut se laver les mains.

Learners’ Activity:

  • Pupils form oral sentences using new vocabulary.
  • Pupils match words with English meanings in a quick board game.

 

  1. Grammar – Il faut + Infinitive (5 minutes)

Teacher Explanation:

  • Il faut + infinitive = necessity, obligation, or advice.

Examples:

  • Il faut prendre les médicaments.
  • Il faut visiter le médecin si on est malade.
  • Il faut garder la maison propre.
  • Il faut se laver les mains avant de manger.

Learners’ Practice:

  • Pupils create 2 sentences each using Il faut + infinitive.
  • Pair work: one pupil gives an illness, partner gives advice with Il faut.
    • Pupil A: J’ai la fièvre.
    • Pupil B: Il faut se reposer et aller à l’hôpital.

 

  1. Conjugation & Sentence Construction (5 minutes)

Target Verbs: visiter, faire, se rendre, prendre, être.

Teacher Drill (Oral + Written):

  • Je ______ (visiter) le médecin. → Je visite le médecin.
  • Nous ______ (prendre) des médicaments. → Nous prenons des médicaments.
  • Tu ______ (être) malade. → Tu es malade.

Integration with Grammar:

  • Il faut visiter le médecin.
  • Il faut prendre des médicaments.
  • Il faut être propre.

Learners’ Practice:

  • Pupils complete fill-in-the-blank exercises in notebooks.

  1. Dialogue Practice (6–7 minutes)

Model Dialogue (on board):

  • Patient: Bonjour, je suis malade.
  • Médecin: Bonjour, il faut prendre ces médicaments.
  • Patient: Combien de fois par jour ?
  • Médecin: Il faut prendre deux comprimés par jour.
  • Patient: Merci, je vais suivre vos conseils.

Learners’ Task:

  • Pupils underline verbs and Il faut structures in dialogue.
  • Pupils read aloud in pairs, switching roles.
  • Teacher models correct pronunciation & intonation.
  1. Role Play – Health Scenario (5–6 minutes)

Setup: Pupils in pairs or groups of 3.

  • Create a short scenario of visiting a doctor/hospital OR discussing hygiene.

Rules:

  1. Use at least 3 target verbs (visiter, se rendre, prendre, être).
  2. Include 2 Il faut + infinitive advice sentences.
  3. Use at least 2 health/sanitation vocabulary words.

Example Role Play:

  • Patient: Bonjour, je me sens malade.
  • Infirmière: Il faut prendre votre température.
  • Patient: Il faut visiter le médecin ?
  • Médecin: Oui, il faut prendre des médicaments et rester au lit.

Learners’ Activity:

  • Groups perform short role plays for the class.
  • Teacher and peers give feedback.

  1. Oral repetition of vocabulary (choral + individual).
  2. Grammar drill: pupils create sentences with Il faut + infinitive.
  3. Fill-in-the-blank conjugation activity in notebooks.

  • Write a short dialogue (8–10 lines) between a patient and a doctor or nurse including:

    • 2 new health/sanitation vocabulary words.

C – Consolidation (Conclusion & Exit Task)

Time: 5–10 minutes
• Teacher summarizes vocabulary, Il faut grammar, and practical usage.
• Pupils share one oral sentence giving health advice.
• Exit Task: Each pupil writes one sentence on: “Il faut… pour rester en bonne santé.”

• Include 3 verbs, 2 Il faut advice sentences, and at least 2 vocabulary words related to health and sanitation.
