Step 1: Asking and Telling Age (5–6 minutes)

Teaching Points:

  • Introduce key expressions with formal and informal distinctions:
    • Quel âge as-tu ? (informal – for friends, classmates)
    • Quel âge avez-vous ? (formal – for teachers, adults, strangers)
    • J’ai … ans. (I am … years old)

Step 2: Conjugation of Avoir (Singular Forms) (5 minutes)

On the Board:

  • Avoir (to have) – singular forms

    • Il/Elle a … (He/She has / He/She is … years old)

Practice Sentences:

  • J’ai douze ans.

Teaching Points:

  • Numbers 21–100 follow a pattern:
    • vingt (20), vingt et un (21), vingt-deux (22) …
    • trente (30), quarante (40), cinquante (50), soixante (60)
    • soixante-dix (70), quatre-vingts (80), quatre-vingt-dix (90), cent (100)

Pronunciation Drill:

  • Choral repetition (whole class), then individually.
  • Teacher mixes random numbers, learners repeat.

Contextual Usage:

  • Counting items in the classroom:
    • Il y a trente élèves.
    • J’ai vingt livres.
  • Expressing age beyond 20:
    • J’ai vingt ans.
    • Elle a trente-deux ans.

  2. Pair work – learners ask and answer ages using numbers up to 100.
