Previous Knowledge
Students already know:
• Nature and adaptability of volleyball.
• Basic team sport principles and benefits of volleyball.

Instructional Materials
• Textbook: Physical Education textbooks for Grade 9
• Teaching aids:
• Students' notebooks and writing materials
• Volleyball or suitable ball for demonstrations
• Court or marked playing area
• Visual aids for court layout and net setup

Lesson Development – ABC Model

A – Anticipation (Warm-up / Starter)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Activity: The teacher will ask the class:
• Have you ever served in volleyball before? Which technique did you use?
• What do you know about net rules and scoring in volleyball?
The teacher will record responses on the board.
Teacher’s Role: Guide discussion, correct misconceptions, and introduce objectives.
Learner’s Role:
• Share prior experiences with serving and net play.
• Participate actively in warm-up discussion.

B – Building Knowledge (Main Lesson Body)
Time: 25–30 minutes
Teacher’s Role:
• Explain court setup and net rules: discuss court dimensions, boundary lines, and positions for players. Demonstrate proper net height—2.43m for men, 2.24m for women (or adapted height for school levels)—and explain the importance of maintaining correct net position.
• Demonstrate serving techniques:
 - Underhand serve: show proper stance, grip, and swing to ensure accuracy and consistency.
 - Overhand serve: demonstrate hand positioning, toss, and follow-through to generate power and control.
• Explain net play rules:
 - No touching the net during play, whether serving or volleying.
 - Maximum of three hits per side before sending the ball over the net.
• Teach scoring system and common faults:
 - Point system: rally scoring to 25 points, best of 3 or 5 sets.
 - Common faults: illegal serves, foot faults, net contact, overstepping boundaries.
• Highlight differences in rules for singles, doubles, and modified volleyball: explain team size variations, rotation rules, and adaptations for small-sided games or modified settings.

Learners’ Activities (Expanded)
• Observe demonstrations of underhand and overhand serves, then practice individually and in pairs.
• Perform net play drills, focusing on three hits per side, correct positioning, and avoiding net contact.
• Participate in mini-games to apply serving, net play, and scoring rules in a realistic game scenario.
• Discuss errors observed during practice and suggest corrective techniques.

Assessment Checks:
• Ask learners to demonstrate a correct underhand or overhand serve.
• Observe adherence to net play rules and positioning during drills.
• Quiz learners verbally on the scoring system, common faults, and differences between singles and doubles rules.

Notes (Expanded & Detailed):
• Emphasize proper technique for serving to prevent injuries and improve accuracy.
• Reinforce the importance of observing rules for fair play and safe participation.
• Provide immediate feedback during practice to correct common mistakes in serving and net play.
• Highlight local examples of school competitions or community games where these rules are applied.

C – Consolidation (Conclusion & Assessment)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Summary:
• Recap court setup and net rules.
• Review serving techniques and net play regulations.
• Revisit scoring system and differences in singles, doubles, and modified play.
Evaluation Method (Expanded):
• Exit slip/quiz: Students will write short answers to:
 1. Explain the correct way to serve underhand and overhand.
 2. State two net play rules.
 3. Describe the scoring system and one common fault.
• Teacher will collect and review for understanding.
• Provide oral feedback before class ends.
Assignment (Expanded): Follow-up Activity:
• Practice serving and net play at home or during PE period.
• Observe or play a mini-match and record correct application of rules.

Differentiation / Inclusive Strategies
• Struggling Learners: Provide step-by-step demonstrations and use visual cues.
• Advanced Learners: Practice strategic serves and complex net plays.
• Students with Disabilities: Modify serve and net drills for accessibility while encouraging participation.
