Lesson Development – ABC Model

A – Anticipation (Warm-up / Starter)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Activity: The teacher will ask the class:
• Which skills or techniques do you find most challenging?
• How do you think strategy and teamwork improve performance in a game?
The teacher will record responses on the board.
Teacher’s Role: Facilitate discussion and set expectations for mini-games.
Learner’s Role:
• Share experiences and expectations.
• Engage in warm-up exercises to prepare for practical drills.

B – Building Knowledge (Main Lesson Body)
Time: 25–30 minutes
Teacher’s Role:
Organize learners into pairs or small groups to practice singles and doubles mini-games, ensuring balanced teams and safe court setup.
Guide integration of previously learned skills, including footwork, grip, ready stance, stroke execution, positioning, and adherence to rules, emphasizing smooth transitions during rallies.
Monitor strategy application, such as efficient court coverage, anticipating opponent shots, and using shot variation (clears, drops, smashes) to gain advantage.
Encourage teamwork and communication in doubles play, including calling shots, covering blind spots, and supporting partners. Highlight sportsmanship, fair play, and positive reinforcement throughout drills.

Learners’ Activities (Expanded)
• Participate in mini-games combining all learned skills, alternating between singles and doubles matches to practice integrated techniques.
Rotate partners to experience different playing styles, adapt strategies, and develop versatility in both offensive and defensive play.
Keep track of points during mini-games and reflect on performance, identifying what worked well and areas needing improvement.
• Engage in peer feedback, offering constructive suggestions for stroke technique, positioning, and teamwork.

Assessment Checks
• Observe learners’ application of skills, ensuring proper footwork, grip, stroke execution, and positioning are used during rallies.
• Assess teamwork, communication, and sportsmanship, noting respectful interactions, support for partners, and adherence to rules.
• Ask learners to identify personal strengths and weaknesses after each mini-game and suggest ways to improve.

Notes (Expanded & Detailed)
• Emphasize the importance of applying technical skills in real game scenarios for effective learning and retention.
• Reinforce fair play, respect, and positive attitude, highlighting how these contribute to enjoyable and safe competition.
• Highlight differences in performance between singles and doubles, including court coverage demands, communication, and strategy adjustments.
• Encourage reflection and goal-setting, helping learners track progress and plan for improvement in future games or school competitions.
