Previous Knowledge
Students already know:
• Volleyball rules, net play, and passing techniques (forearm and overhead passes).
• Serving basics and court setup.

Instructional Materials
• Textbook: Physical Education textbooks for Grade 9
• Teaching aids:
• Students' notebooks and writing materials
• Volleyball or suitable ball for demonstrations
• Court or marked playing area
• Visual aids for strategy diagrams

Lesson Development – ABC Model

A – Anticipation (Warm-up / Starter)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Activity: The teacher will ask the class:
• What strategies do you think help a team score points effectively?
• How can defense prevent the opposing team from scoring?
The teacher will record responses on the board.
Teacher’s Role: Guide discussion, correct misconceptions, and introduce objectives.
Learner’s Role:
• Share experiences and ideas about offensive and defensive strategies.
• Participate actively in warm-up discussion.

B – Building Knowledge (Main Lesson Body)
Time: 25–30 minutes
Teacher’s Role:
• Explain offensive strategies:
 - Attacks: spikes (jumping or standing), drives (flat, fast strokes), and targeted placement to opponents’ weak zones.
 - Decision-making: when to attack, use feints, or vary shot direction.
 - Coordination: working with setter for planned plays.
• Explain defensive strategies:
 - Blocking at the net: positioning hands, timing jumps, reading attackers’ approach.
 - Digging: low stance, arms extended, anticipating attacks.
 - Court coverage: moving efficiently to cover zones and support teammates.
• Demonstrate service strategies:
 - Targeting specific court zones to exploit opponents’ weaknesses.
 - Types of serves: float (no spin, unpredictable flight), topspin (fast, downward trajectory).
 - Consistency and accuracy in serve placement.
• Highlight court positioning, rotation rules, and teamwork essentials:
 - Correct rotation order during serves.
 - Maintaining proper spacing in offensive and defensive setups.
 - Communication: calling for the ball, signaling plays, and coordinating movements.

Learners’ Activities (Expanded)
• Practice offensive drills: executing spikes, drives, and targeted shots to designated zones.
• Practice defensive drills: blocking at the net, digging from attacks, maintaining correct positions.
• Execute various serves aiming at specific zones, practicing both float and topspin serves.
• Participate in small-sided games to apply rotations, teamwork, and combined offensive/defensive strategies.
• Discuss and analyze scenarios where strategy adjustments improve performance.

Assessment Checks:
• Observe ability to apply offensive and defensive strategies accurately during drills.
• Monitor execution, control, and accuracy of service strategies.
• Check adherence to proper rotation and positioning rules during mini-games.
• Evaluate teamwork, communication, and tactical decision-making during practice.

Notes (Expanded & Detailed):
• Emphasize teamwork and communication as integral to successful strategies.
• Reinforce rotation rules to ensure fair and structured play.
• Encourage learners to analyze opponents’ weaknesses and adapt strategy accordingly.
• Highlight connections between skill execution, positioning, and strategic decision-making for match scenarios.

C – Consolidation (Conclusion & Assessment)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Summary:
• Recap offensive and defensive strategies.
• Review service techniques and court positioning.
• Highlight the importance of teamwork and rotation.
Evaluation Method (Expanded):
• Exit slip/quiz: Students will write short answers to:
 1. Describe one offensive and one defensive strategy.
 2. Explain how targeting zones improves serving.
 3. Describe the importance of rotation and teamwork.
• Teacher will collect and review for understanding.
• Provide oral feedback before class ends.
Assignment (Expanded): Follow-up Activity:
• Practice offensive, defensive, and service strategies during PE period or at home.
• Observe a volleyball match and note examples of strategies, rotation, and teamwork.

Differentiation / Inclusive Strategies
• Struggling Learners: Provide step-by-step demonstrations and paired practice.
• Advanced Learners: Practice complex offensive and defensive combinations.
• Students with Disabilities: Modify drills for accessibility while promoting participation.
