Lesson Development – ABC Model
A – Anticipation (Warm-up / Starter)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Activity: The teacher will ask the class:
• Can you name any volleyball terms you remember from previous lessons?
• How do you think knowing the terminology helps during gameplay?
The teacher will record responses on the board.
Teacher’s Role: Guide discussion, correct misconceptions, and introduce lesson objectives.
Learner’s Role:
• Share knowledge of volleyball terminology.
• Participate actively in warm-up discussion.
B – Building Knowledge (Main Lesson Body)
Time: 25–30 minutes
Teacher’s Role:
• Explain and define key volleyball terms in detail:
- Attack: offensive strike aimed at scoring a point by hitting the ball into the opponent’s court.
- Ball handling: control of the ball using correct passing, setting, and receiving techniques.
- Block: defensive action at the net to prevent an opponent’s attack from crossing into your court.
- Dump: deceptive attack, usually by the setter, to catch the opponent off guard.
- Rally: continuous exchange of shots between teams until a point is scored.
• Organize mini-games that integrate all learned skills: serving, passing, setting, attacking, and blocking.
• Emphasize teamwork, communication, and strategy during gameplay.
• Provide live demonstrations, highlight correct posture, footwork, and positioning during each skill.
Learners’ Activities (Expanded)
• Practice using correct terminology while performing each skill in drills and mini-games.
• Participate in mini-games where teams apply all skills and strategies learned over previous lessons.
• Work in teams to plan plays, communicate verbally and non-verbally, and make real-time tactical decisions.
• Rotate roles (setter, attacker, blocker, server) to experience multiple positions.
Assessment Checks:
• Observe students using correct volleyball terminology actively during gameplay.
• Monitor integration of skills—accuracy, timing, coordination, and adherence to rules.
• Evaluate teamwork, communication, and strategic thinking during drills and mini-games.
• Provide instant feedback on errors and correct execution.
Notes (Expanded & Detailed):
• Encourage students to verbalize actions (“I’ll set,” “I’ll block”) to reinforce terminology and communication.
• Highlight the connection between skill mastery and strategic application in game scenarios.
• Stress the importance of reflection after each mini-game to identify strengths, weaknesses, and areas for improvement.
• Incorporate culturally relevant examples, e.g., referencing local volleyball events or school competitions in Liberia to contextualize learning.
C – Consolidation (Conclusion & Assessment)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Summary:
• Recap key volleyball terminology.
• Review how all skills were integrated in mini-games.
• Discuss teamwork, communication, and strategy application observed.
