• What does commitment mean in your daily life?
• Can you think of an example where God has made a promise to mankind?
The teacher will record their responses on the board.

B – Building Knowledge (25–30 minutes):

Teacher’s Role:
• Define man’s commitment to God as faithfulness, obedience, and responsibility to uphold God’s instructions and moral laws.
• Explain how different religions teach commitment:

  1. Christianity:
    – Commitment involves faith, prayer, obedience to God’s commandments, regular worship, charity, and moral living.
    – Example: Attending Sunday service, helping neighbors, adhering to Ten Commandments.
    – Liberian example: Youth volunteering in church programs, following Biblical teachings in daily life.
  2. Islam:
    – Commitment involves faith in Allah, performing Salah (prayer), fasting, giving Zakat (charity), and obeying the teachings of the Qur’an and Hadith.
    – Example: Praying five times daily, showing honesty and justice.
    – Liberian example: Muslim students fasting during Ramadan, helping community members as a form of service to God.
  3. Traditional African Religion:
    – Commitment includes honoring ancestors, performing rituals, observing cultural rites, and maintaining harmony with nature and the community.
    – Example: Participating in libation ceremonies, respecting elders’ guidance, or community festivals.
    – Liberian example: Youth helping elders in community rituals, offering respect through proverbs and local customs.

• Take detailed notes and ask clarifying questions.
• Work in groups to list specific practices that show commitment to God in each religion.
• Discuss the impact of these commitments on personal behavior, family life, and society.

Assessment Checks:

• Identify one Islamic practice that demonstrates commitment to Allah.
• Explain one traditional African way of showing commitment to God.
• Discuss how commitment to God can guide moral behavior in society.

Notes (Expanded & Detailed):
Man’s commitment to God is the conscious effort to obey divine instructions, maintain faith, and uphold moral responsibilities. In Christianity, commitment is expressed through faith, worship, prayer, and ethical conduct. In Islam, it is demonstrated through obedience to Allah, prayer, fasting, charity, and honest living. Traditional African teachings emphasize honoring ancestors, rituals, moral codes, and harmony with the community. In Liberia, these commitments are visible when youth participate in church programs, Muslim students observe Ramadan, or communities engage in traditional rites. Understanding these practices teaches learners the importance of faithfulness, responsibility, and moral integrity.

Practical Activities/Assignments:
• Write a reflection on one personal action that demonstrates your commitment to God.
• Create a table comparing Christian, Islamic, and Traditional commitments to God with examples from Liberia.
• Role-play a scenario showing how following religious commitments can guide ethical decisions in school or community life.

C – Consolidation (Conclusion & Assessment)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Summary:
• The teacher will ask students to recall:
– The definition of commitment in religion.
– One example of God’s commitment to mankind.
– One practical way to demonstrate commitment in daily life.
Evaluation Method (Expanded):
• Exit slip/quiz: Students will write short answers to:
– Define religious commitment.
– Give one example of God’s commitment to mankind.
• Teacher will collect and quickly review for understanding.
• Provide oral feedback before class ends.
Assignment (Expanded):
Students will write a reflection on how they can show commitment to God and ethical responsibilities in their daily lives.

Follow-up Activity:
Students will share examples in groups of how God’s commitments influence human behavior in Liberian communities.
